What a great peony that continues to outshine so many other peonies, beautiful clumps that stand up against the wind and rain and the blossoms do not fade.

"Paeonia 'Kansas', (2-DB-R) lactiflora cultivar Peony, (Bigger, 1940), USDA Hardiness Zone 4, Medium height, double, watermellon red petals, large flower, a few hidden stamens, fragrant, strong stems, good cut, early bloomer, Michigan Bloom Month 5-6.

Listed as red, but looks like dark pink to me. Sometimes described as watermelon red. APS Gold Medal Award in 1957."
