Aeonium2003 on Mar 30, 2022 9:41 PM concerning plant:
Most of simsii in cultivation are in fact hybrids of the pure species: lidii and hybridum (barbatum). These hybrids may look similar to simsii, with a similar growth habit and flowering from offsets. The hybridum can be identified by the presence of ideoblasts, which come from its spathulatum parent. Lidii can be identified by its longer leaves and more upright growth habit.
True simsii can be identified by its long marginal cilia, which should be over 1 mm in length, up to 2.5 mm. In addition, there should be distinct water tubes at the back of the leaves.
This species is remarkably cold hardy and drought tolerant. It can be seen in the wild on the Gran Canaria, including Roque Nublo, where it is abundant.

Baja_Costero (Baja California - Zone 11b) on Jun 6, 2017 9:28 PM concerning plant:
Unusual, attractive Aeonium with thin green leaves, easily distinguished by its marginal hairs. The only species which flowers laterally instead of terminally, so rosettes live on after flowering. A higher elevation species in habitat. Drought resistant and frost tolerant. Marked summer dormancy. One parent of the hybrid "Cabernet" (along with "Zwartkop").
