Small, clumping grass aloe from South Africa with stiff, linear leaves and greenish flowers. Leaves form a bulb-like structure at the base. Stamens and style are exserted from the flowers, which are spaced relatively far apart on the raceme and have short pedicels. Originally found around Port Elizabeth, and threatened by development. Previously placed in its own genus, Bowiea and later Chamaealoe. Similar to A. inconspicua, another grass aloe with a bulb and greenish white flowers, but inconspicua has more densely flowered racemes without much in the way of pedicels.
