A case of ugly beauty. This small, low, mat-forming ice plant is from a summer rainfall area of South Africa. Leaves are brownish blue-green and have small warts on the exposed area near the tip. These warts may be various different colors but most commonly are whitish, gray or brownish in cultivation. Individual rosettes may grow to a few inches wide and branch to form clumps. Flowers are yellow, just under an inch wide, and pretty typical for the family. Variants with interesting warts or flowers have been named and propagated in cultivation. Both the genus and species names refer to the limestone substrate this plant occupies in habitat and somewhat resembles. Provide good drainage and strong light; do not overwater.
