The Soldier Orchid is a terrestrial, perennial orchid native to Southeast Asia but has naturalized in other parts of the world. This orchid is found in a variety of moist habitats from lawns, roadsides, fields and drainage ditches. It grows from a short underground rhizome with erect green stems tinged with purple and the flowers are white with a yellow lip.

I found a couple of these cute little orchids growing in my lawn a few years ago, dug one this past January and potted it up but it didn't take well to transplanting and did not survive. I haven't seen them pop up in a few years but weekly mowing of the lawn probably prevents them from multiplying and thriving.
