L. heldreichii is considered a synonym of L. chalcedonicum, but is reported to differ from the type by The Genus Lilium website (see the Candidum Section comparison), reaching up to 200cm in height in contrast to the 60-120cm of the type.

Tight recurving flowers of brilliant waxy red. Shallower planting is advised for this bulb, along with the addition of lime to the soil. Widely regarded as a difficult species to grow.
