'Little Joe' is a winner in my central Maryland garden. I have it in morning to midday sun, shade after that due to being against a deck. Soil there is dense (clay due to deck construction) and stays moist (due to grading and exposure) It's in the third year, this was a very rainy one, still matured at a nice 4 feet, unlike its straight Joepye neighbor that got to 7 feet.

'Little Joe' is a slightly more compact form of the Coastal Joe-Pye. It is supposed to get 3 to 4 feet high and 3 feet wide, but the specimen in my biggest customer's yard has gotten to 5 feet this year and about as wide. It looks very good and is standing up fine! Like the mother species it has more ovate leaves than other Joe-Pye species and has three main veins instead of one, and leaves get to 6 inches long while most other species leaves get to 8 inches or more. This cultivar was chosen by a Steve Lightly at Conard-Pyle Nursery in Pennsylvania.
