The Japanese Chestnut is native to Japan and South Korea. It grows in a rounded habit with an open crown. It bears large nuts with some bitterness from tannins, though some cultivars don't have that. Its leaves are 3 to 7 inches long and have a long pointed shape. It seems to have a little more wideness below the middle of the leaf. The small teeth are not curved. I have never seen this species here in the USA. It is popular in Japan, of course. It is resistant to the Chestnut Blight.
