A dwarf shrub native to New Zealand .
Blooms in winter , but with proper pruning can be tricked into blooming almost all year(blooms on new growth)
The wood is used for carving, for tool handles, and for smoking meat.
Bees make manuka honey, prized for its healing properties, from the flowers.
Called tea tree because the pioneers made tea from the leaves and bark. This practice is not common now, reportedly because of the unfavorable taste.
