This plant is in the Malvaceae family, and is renowned for its medicinal benefits. In some regions, it is also grown as ornamental. It is native to the western half of the Indo-Pacific and parts of Australasia. It is very similar to its cousin velvetleaf, for which it is often mistaken, but it has rounder seedpods and is a perennial shrub. This plant is moderately drought tolerant and is easily propagated from seed.
