    P. foetida var. gossypiifolia is thought to be carnivorous because the sticky bracts surrounding the buds trap insects. When the flower opens, the bracts part, and when the flower closes back up, the bract comes together again. The bracts will remain around developing fruit and eventually fall off as the fruit begins to ripen.

    P. foetida var, gossypiifolia is one of the few passies that germinate quickly from seed.
