I have had Marie van Houtte for over 15 years and have propagated it easily. The plants are long lived. My original one is still going strong. It is one of my favorites. It does not have any issues with blackspot and it remains full of leaves during the hottest part of Louisiana heat in August. It reblooms continually with a few blossoms on it periodically during the off-peak season. The big shows are in the spring and fall. It is a good cut flower. The foliage is beautiful with a green to maroon multicolor. The habit is a round bush and it grows to about 5 feet by 5 feet.

    Noted by Antique Rose Emporium:
"A valuable rose parent, Marie van Houtte is described as having large, globular flowers of lemon yellow, deeper in the center, with pinkish lilac suffusing the tips of the petals. Its dark, shiny and occasionally evergreen foliage is a good foil to the light flowers. The coloration of the blossom is very similar to the popular Tea, Mrs. Dudley Cross, however, the bush is much more substantial. We affectionately refer to this rose as "Mrs. Dudley Cross on steroids."
