This wonderful soft pine species is very similar to her sister species of the Eastern White Pine, the Western White Pine, or the Himalayan White Pine. Her soft, flexible, slender needles are in fascicles of 5, rarely 6. Her slightly curved cylindrical cones are 6 to 16 inches long in whorls of 2 to 4 with a one inch long peduncle. She is native to the mountains of southern Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, & Honduras. The species name comes from the Nahuatl (Aztec) word for the tree of Ayacahuite.
