This is my earliest blooming daffodil -- Jan 31, in both 2012 & 2013. It's just a nice basic yellow daffodil, but what a welcome sight! As you can see, it's unfazed by February snow. :-)

The first of my daffodil varieties to bloom in very early spring. I planted about 100 of the bulbs en masse to get a vivid splash of color just when I really need it at winter's end as spring arrives. Nothing fancy as it is just your basic yellow daffodil, but welcome color after the long winter.

When doing some fall cleanup in my southeast Pennsylvania garden today (Deember 13, 2015), I was amazed to see Rijnveld's Early Sensation shoots poking through the mulch! Is anyone else seeing signs of spring this early, or are my plants alone in their confusion?

Good subject to force over winter, but to beat it blooming outside better start forcing process early. This cultivar is often the first daffodil to make an appearance outside. February in middle zones, January in more southern areas. Doesn't seem to mind being occasionally snow covered.

RHS description - 'Fl. 90 mm wide; perianth segments ovate, acute, brilliant greenish yellow 6C, inflexed, with margins a little incurved, overlapping a quarter; the inner segments more strongly inflexed, twisted; corona somewhat funnel-shaped, smooth, much deeper in tone (darker than 12A) than the perianth, mouth expanded, wavy, rim flanged, deeply notched and crenate. www.rhs.org.uk

    Synonym -`Early Sensation' and 'Crocodils'

    Multiple award winner.
Seed and pollen fertile. List of descendants can be reviewed in DaffSeek.
