The Rose Painted Calathea is a clump-forming perennial native to tropical South America. In some areas of the tropics it is used as a ground cover, but for most of us it's grown as a house plant for its beautiful and decorative foliage. Calathea roseopicta will attain height and spread of approximately 24 inches. The leaves are dark green above with cream to pink feathering along the veins and margins; the reverse side of the leaves is red. This Calathea does well in lower light situations, but for best leaf color and health of the plant bright indirect light is best, with no direct sun, which will scorch the leaves. Rose Painted Calathea likes to be potbound and performs best planted in an organic, well-draining potting medium. It also prefers high humidity levels and temperatures between 60ºF - 80ºF.
