I got Salvia involucrata 'Hidalgo' in 2012. It was my first time growing it and I loved it! Beautiful flowers!
I planted it in a very large container tub with a few other Salvias in the same container and had it at the end of our side entry driveway that got full sun with some late shade. It's a large Salvia that grew tall and wide, as you can tell by the photos. The next time I'm going to plant it by itself in the container.
I ordered it for the hummingbirds and I noticed bees around the flowers. I saw honeybees and bumblebees! I decided to order it again for 2013 for all to enjoy!
Take a look at my photos!
(edited on Oct. 9).... I did plant it again in 2013 and it's been blooming. I just noticed Honeybees on the flowers! If you have the space for this one, it's a great Salvia for attracting Honeybees while it's blooming! I've been pinching the stems back, since I saw how long the stems can get.
Both years I've had it planted in a very large container tub.
