Description from the 1933 catalog, Royal Iris Gardens (J. C. Nicholls, Jr., Camillus, NY), p.72:
CHRYSAEOLA. 3 1/2 ft. A very bright violet blue with brilliant golden radiation from the throat out onto the blade of the falls. Fine large flowers and one of the best bright blues.

Originally described as a distinct species, now classified as a cultivar of Louisiana Iris.
