Spineless cactus with many white flecks and large yellow flowers, from the Chihuahuan Desert. It usually has 5 ribs. The flowers are usually yellow with a red center, though they may also be all-red or rarely all-yellow. Found in Coahuila and Durango.

This cactus looks a lot like A. myriostigma (and was formerly a subspecies or variety) but exists in a separate area a few hundred kilometers to the northwest, and there are differences in fertility, flowers, fruit and seeds. The two species do not apparently hybridize. The flowers are usually yellow with a red center (not all yellow). The fruit is pinkish (not greenish) and dehisces basally (not apically).
