This new cultivar was selected from a mass planting of Eastern Redbud trees in Morganton, North Carolina. It was later propagated by budding by Shadow Nursery in Winchester, Tennessee, then patented on October 24th, 2006. This cultivar has a compact habit with a dense dome-shaped canopy. It is supposed to get only about 12 feet high by 15 feet wide. We'll see what happens when the trees become older, if they indeed keep to that size and form. I noticed right away that the leaves are smaller than the mother species. The leaves only get about 2 to 2.5 inches long and wide. The mother species produces leaves about 3 to 5 inches long and wide.
