This Turtlehead is native to the coastal plain and mountains of the Southeast where it is infrequent along stream banks and swampy forest margins. It differs from Chelone lyonii primarily in having narrow leaves and darker pink flowers. From late summer into fall, its very showy deep pink/purple, snapdragon-like flowers shine like beacons in sunny areas.

    C. obliqua is found as tetraploids in the Blue Ridge, or hexaploids in two areas: Tennessee to Arkansas and Michigan, or the Atlantic coastal plain from South Carolina to Maryland. (Wikipedia)
