I bought two Niagara Big Bluestem grasses from Limerock Ornamental Grasses Inc. that used to exist until 2015 in Port Matilda, PA, in small pots sent by mail. This cultivar was selected from stock in Elma in Erie County along Buffalo Creek in New York and was released in 1986. It is noted as being better suited to the East of the US than the Midwest. It is recommended as best for Maine to West Virginia. Its seedheads emerge earlier than the average Big Bluestem in late June and it has a darker blue color than the average also.
