This tree is a good replacement for the Leyland Cypress, which has so many problems. It does not get as huge as the Leyland either in height or spread. Its distinguishing characteristic is the deep, pure green of the foliage. The fruit is a small bluish-purple berry, which develops a whitish waxy coating on maturity.
The pollen can cause allergic reactions in individuals.
Does not like boggy conditions; must have well drained soil although it is not terribly picky about the soil, whether it is sandy or rocky or what have you.
Wind and pollution tolerant. Makes a spectacular specimen tree. Also great planted as a living screen or windbreak.
