The Oriental Planetree is native to southeast Europe and western Asia. ("Oriental" used to refer to western Asia rather than eastern Asia when botany began.) It differs from the American Sycamore by having much deeper lobes of the leaves and the buttonball fruits hang in groups of 3 to 6, rather than just singly. The Oriental species is not as cold hardy as the American, only good to about USDA Zone 6b. There are a few at the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia, PA. Otherwise, I have never seen this species in the USA.
