This plant can take up to 3 years to bloom from planting time. It has lavender-colored blooms, which are a magnet for butterflies.
  • Posted by ILPARW (southeast Pennsylvania - Zone 6b) on Mar 5, 2019 8:08 PM concerning plant:
This Miss Kim Manchurian Lilac is somewhat commonly sold at conventional nurseries in the Midwestern and Eastern US. It grows as a rounded oval bushy form, often about 5 to 6 feet high, but to 10 feet is possible. The leaves get about 5 inches long and are lance-shaped with a pointed apex (leaf tip). The light purple flowers are fragrant, but have some privet smell in them and do not smell as good as the Common Lilac, and bloom later in late May or early June. They seem to do better in the Chicago, IL region than in the Philadelphia, PA region, as I have seen some decline in some plants, not all, in the later area, maybe from moister clay soil or the higher level of humidity. The species is native to northern China and Korea.
