I came upon one street tree that caught my eye as a handsome tree in the Wilton Manor area of Fort Lauderdale and did not know what it was for a few years. Finally, discovered that it is a Black Olive tree that is native to South America, Central America, the West Indies, and southern Florida. It is occasionally used as a shade or street tree in southern Florida. It is sort of slow growing and wide spreading. It bears small greenish-yellow flowers in spikes about to 4 inches long. Its black fruit can stain pavement. To my northern eyes, it seemed sort of Elm-like.
