I bought a pot of this Alleghany Pachysandra from a local native plant nursery about 2009 or so, and planted it right along the east foundation of my house in partial shade and in a moist, good quality clay soil. It has been doing well and slowly expanding northward ever since. I consider it as semi-evergreen. There is green colour in the foliage all year, but not nice and fresh once the real cold hits. In early spring I can cut back the old foliage for early neatness, but I don't have to, as the new growth will cover the old. It is a very nice, reliable groundcover. Its native range is from eastern Kentucky & West Virginia down into Florida to Louisiana. It is sold by a good number of native plant nurseries and by some larger, diverse conventional nurseries. I maybe the only one in my small town that owns some, as it is not commonly planted, which is too bad. (The Japanese Pachysandra that is waxy and fully evergreen is the species that is so completely, abundantly planted in so many yards, actually over-planted.)
