This species is native from southern Quebec to southern British Columbia, south to New Jersey to northern Indiana, around the Great Lakes region, through the Dakotas, Montana down into New Mexico in the Rocky Moutains. The flat leaves are wider of about 1/4 to 1/3 inches wide, flat stems, and flowers on short stalks. It is good at self-sowing, as it has done in my yard. It is a member of the Iris Family.
