This variety is large and somewhat irregular in shape, pink in color when ripe and with excellent flavor and texture (as long as it isn't allowed to become over-ripe). The fruit is thin-skinned and needs to be handled with care when picking. A very reliable performer in my northern garden.

I enjoy "black" or purple tomatoes, but I have to say this wasn't one of my favorites. The thin skin made it particularly prone to splitting, and even when I tried to pick them a little early, the texture still seemed somewhat mealy. I ended up using them in sauces, as I wasn't keen on them as a fresh eating tomato.

OP. Purple-pink fruit, 16 ounces, with few seeds. Mid-season. Indeterminate 4-8' vines.
Early Brandywine or Beefsteak type. Excellent flavor.

Excellent, well-balanced flavor and produced well in my garden (zone 8, sandy soil, humid summers). Fruits ripened somewhat unevenly, so would not transport well for market, but a wonderful fresh-eating tomato. Probably my favorite all-around slicing tomato.
