Swamp Fern is a terrestrial (non climbing) medium sized evergreen fern occurring in the U.S. only in Florida. It is fairly common here in wetlands, marshes, swamps and hammocks. The bright green stiff fronds can be either erect or arching and the plant will attain one to four feet in height when growing in the shade, but the plant will remain shorter when grown in full sun. New growth can be pink to bronze in color. This fern is common in Central and South Florida, is very fast growing and in some instances can be an aggressive, spreading nuisance. Swamp Fern requires consistently moist soil and grows happily in full sun as well as partial or full shade.
