In my estimation, a horrible weed.
Native to Europe, introduced as a residential ground cover.
Likes moist soil in low woodlands, in valleys and banks of streams, lawns, gardens, fields, and roadsides.
Edible fresh shoots and leaves (salads and soups) or prepared and eaten like spinach.
Used historically as the primary seasoning used in brewing ale to flavor, preserve, and clarify before the Germans began using hops.
In the Middle Ages, garlands were made on Midsummer's Eve to ward off witch's spells.

A little known fact is that this weed is actually a part of the mint (Lamiaceae) family. Its natural habitat is in open slopes in woods, and can be found anywhere from British Columbia to Montana & Washington.
