Known only through cultivated examples some have proposed that Z. elliottiana is actually a hybrid. Like most Callas, excepting Z. aethiopica, this is a deciduous species which goes dormant during the dry season. The spathe is yellow and typically wide mouthed. Leaves are maculate (spotted), cordate (heart shaped) and somewhat egg shaped with basal lobes that do not turn outwards. The petiole (leaf stalk) is variegated and typically red tinged, particularly near the base. Mature berries are green and firm. At this time the entire spathe will have turned green (it doesn't shrivel up but persists) and the peduncle (flower stalk) will bend toward the ground.

The tuber is easily stored dry for overwintering in colder climates, I lift after the first frost has knocked the leaves down. Mine typically start to sprout in earnest by mid to late April (5-6 months after lifting) so care should be taken when storing so you don't damage the crown.
