    Z. rehmannii, like all Callas, is native to South Africa. It is deciduous and goes dormant at the onset of the dry season. I lift after 1st frost, forcing them into dormancy.

The spathe can be various shades of red from pink to dark maroon and the leaves are lanceolate (lance shaped) and immaculate (without spots). Ripe berries are green and firm. At this time the peduncle (bloom stalk) bends toward the ground and the spathe, entirely green, disintegrates. Most of the modern pink and red cultivars are Z. rehmannii hybrids.

Store tubers dry overwinter in a cool dark place. I plant near last frost date in spring around 8" deep with ~2" of compost on top to keep the roots cool and moist.
