Early Riser is an appropriate name for this variety. It is already vining, whereas Shumway's version of Lazy Wife, planted at the same time, is barely setting its first set of true leaves. Very fast emergence in cold soil. I like the old Romano so I am hoping this one is as productive as it is vigorous now. Just finished sticking them and they are already grasping the poles. Update : It is very productive, more so than the Romano, It came in a week earlier than my bush beans. Most important it is stringless, tender and tasty. A top notch pole bean.

Often the first bean in the garden to ripen, and the plants produce beans all season long. The pods of this pole bean are long and flat, and they stay tender and flavorful even when large.
