Marigolds vs. Nematodes
To learn more about using marigolds to control nematodes, see North Carolina's Nema-Note Web page. It provides planting plans, seeding rates, and spacing requirements that make the method more effective. If your garden has become a nematode nightmare, Auburn University's Nematode-Suppressive Crops Web page lists several other plants that can be combined with marigolds to get good nematode control.

Gardening Through Your Golden Years
You may buy Jim Wilson's Gardening Through Your Golden Years (Cool Springs Press, 2003; $19.99) for a parent or aging friend, but first take the time to read it yourself. This little gem of a book captures the constancy with which gardens nurture us, helping us through the hardest times while providing moments of joy that stretch into lifetimes.
