2004 Garden Calendar
The West Virginia University Extension Service Home Gardening Guide Web site includes links to many helpful, practical fact sheets for home gardeners. One of my favorites is the 2004 Home Garden Calendar. It can be viewed or downloaded and printed (requires Adobe Acrobat). Along with some charming photos, the monthly pages include space for writing your own notes plus timely tips and reminders for gardeners.

The Insatiable Gardener's Guide
The Insatiable Gardener's Guide: How to Grow Anything & Everything Indoors, Year 'Round, by Susan M. Brackney (Five Hearts Press, 2003; $12.95) has a deceivingly cute and chatty little bookcover. It promises a lot in its title -- and the book delivers a lot -- but it is not the plant-by-plant growing guide I expected. Not by a long shot. Instead, it is a hard-hitting, information-packed, detailed introduction to indoor growing with either specialty lighting and/or using hydroponics at home! If you have been wondering about or considering trying these indoor gardening techniques, you will appreciate the clear, jargon-free descriptions and explanations of the how's and why's -- as well as Brackney's encouraging and reassuring presentation.
