Freeman Maple
The Freeman maple (Acer x freemannii) is a naturally occurring hybrid between red maple and silver maple. For all of us who have alkaline soil, this is a wonderful alternative to the red maple that turns chlorotic on our soils. Freeman maples thrive in alkaline soils, have brilliant red fall color, and are strong-wooded enough not to break as the silver maple does. Best of all, they are fast growers. The cultivar 'Autumn Blaze' is one of the best for fall color.
