Favorite or New Plant

Garlic Galore
The sooner you plant garlic in rich, well-drained soil, the larger the heads will be at harvest. For the largest-sized garlic, plant cloves 4 to 6 inches apart now in a raised planting bed that's well drained and compost-enriched. Keep the soil moist through next June.

Clever Gardening Technique

Unsproutable Birdseed
To keep birdseed from sprouting once it has spilled out of its container, bake it on a cookie sheet in a 300-degree oven for five minutes. The heat will sterilize the seed without lessening its nutritive value.
