The Last Word on Botanical Names
Its name is a tad cumbersome, but the Integrated Taxonomic Information System Web site provides the currently accepted botanical names for plants from around the world. It covers entire taxonomy (Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and species) and can be searched by scientific or common names.

Clever Gardening Technique

Choose Native Plants
If you need to cut down on the amount of time you spend maintaining your garden, include more plants. Natives (or well-adapted plants from similar growing regions) seldom, if ever, require fertilizer because they have evolved to thrive in native soil conditions. In addition to saving yourself time and money, reduced fertilizer use means less nutrients running off or seeping into groundwater supplies. Go native!
