Recycling Household Throwaways Into Garden Tools
Come get ideas for reusing household items in the garden on June 9 (Thursday), 2:30 p.m., in Friends Hall at the Huntington Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, CA 91108. I'll show slides, bring examples, and discuss how to turn broken and other "useless" items around the house into useful garden tools. A plant sale follows. Print and bring my article with you:

Clever Gardening Technique

Plastic Baskets
Use plastic baskets from cherry tomatoes or strawberries to protect newly sprouted seedlings (such as corn, cucumbers, melons, and squash) from birds. By the time the seedlings have grown tall enough to reach through the tops of the baskets, they are no longer as tender and delectible to the birds.
