Books

Organic Gardening
How to grow a healthy, problem-free garden without using chemicals is the subject of the illustrated Organic Pest & Disease Control, by Barbara Ellis (Houghton Mifflin, 1997; $12.95), part of the Taylor's Weekend Gardening Guides. It contains information on insect pests, diseases, weeds, animal pests, as well as a hardiness zone map. There is a chapter dedicated to creating a healthy garden by building soil, selecting appropriate plants, and problem solving. The illustrations and photographs are excellent tools for troubleshooting, and the organic remedies are easy and straightforward. Overall, this is an excellent publication for the neophyte organic gardener.
