Soil Testing Fact Sheet
Having your soil tested for nutrients, pH, and organic matter by a professional laboratory is an important step in gardening successfully. To learn how to take a good soil sample and where to send it for testing, either contact your county's Cooperative Extension Service office for information or visit: Ohio State University's Fact Sheet on soil testing.

Books

Gardening with Native Plants
Although there are numerous books on gardening with native plants and gardening for wildlife, Sara B. Stein's two books, Noah's Garden: Restoring the Ecology of Our Own Backyards (Houghton Mifflin, 1995; $14.00), and Planting Noah's Garden: Further Adventures in Backyard Ecology (Houghton Mifflin, 1997; $14) continue to provide some of the most compelling literature on the subject. Stein's writing is at once informative, easy to read and understand, and literate.
