Clever Gardening Technique

Tip for Container Planting
When planting around the edge of a container, angle trailing plants, such as lobelia or campanula, toward the outside. By laying the plants semi-sideways, the foliage will cover the rim of the pot and give a more lush appearance to the finished display. Fill in with soil after you have the plants in place. You don't want any air pockets that would allow the roots to dry out. Once you are done planting, always water immediately to settle the soil. Wait for the plants to start to grow before you fertilize.
