Clever Gardening Technique

Make Room for Clematis
With so many different colors and flower shapes, don't even try to choose just one clematis to grow. Fences and trellises are ideal for supporting the vines, but clematis will wind their way up the branches of shrubs and small trees, too. You may need to give the vines something to grab hold of at the base of a tree trunk and guide the vines until they reach the branches. Shrubs, especially shrub roses, provide good support, and then you have the fun of playing with different flower color combinations.

Shows & Events

Garden Conservancy Open Days
If you like to tour gardens and enjoy an excursion, the Garden Conservancy Open Days are worth putting on your calendar. More than 300 private gardens around the country are participating this year, and they are only open to the public on certain days so a visit requires some advance planning. But they are likely to be well worth it. You can find out more on the Open Days Web site.
