Cacti and Succulents
Some of my favorite plants that are truly hardy, rugged, and reliable are cacti. Cacti and Succulents in Habitat, by Ken Preston-Mafham (Sterling Publishing $19.95) will introduce you to the vast variety of cacti and succulents. It features a great selection with color photos and shows them growing in their natural habitat. They are more than just dry, monotonous, and spiny plants.

Clever Gardening Technique

Repel Cats in Your Garden
Got cats digging in your flowerbeds? One way to repel them is to bury several soda or beer bottles up to their necks in the ground where the plants are growing. Fill the bottles with a couple spoonfuls of a foul-smelling material such household cleaning ammonia or funnel in some moth crystals. It seems to make the cats avoid the area and steer clear of that flowerbed.
