Fort Valley Experimental Forest
When it opened in 1908, Coconino Experiment Station near Flagstaff, Arizona, now called Fort Valley Experimental Forest, was the first U.S. Forest Service research station in the nation. Its site has loads of information, including historical photos that show changes in forest growth over the decades. At the Fort Valley Web site you can check out the many creatures captured on web cam visiting the bird feeding station. Higher elevation gardeners may appreciate knowing that fox and elk may appear at your bird feeders!

Clever Gardening Technique

In wildflower gardens, incorporate large boulders and accent plants such as agave, cactus, desert milkweed, desert spoon, and yucca, to provide structure and interest when the wildflowers are spent.
