Flowering Purslane
No matter how hot it gets, flowering purslane (also called portulaca or rose moss) keeps on blooming in planting beds, hanging baskets, or other containers. Many cultivars are available in a wide range of colors including hues of yellow, orange, coral, pink, and red. Try purslane for dependable color in the summer heat.

Clever Gardening Technique

Plant Care When You're Away
Summer is a popular vacation time. This leaves us with the dilemma of keeping our container plants alive when we are away. Take a small plastic children's wading pool or some large plastic storage bins and set the plants in them. Add water to the bins so that it is just a little above the bottom of the container. This will cause the water to wick up into the container and keep your plants well supplied while you are away. If your plants are outdoors, add a product with the type of B.t. used for mosquito control.
