Favorite or New Plant

Mahonia
Mahonia is an imposing shrub that commands attention with its holly-like foliage and its racemes of bold yellow flowers that sprout from the center of the plant sometime between late fall and early spring. Best selections for the Middle South include the Mahonia x media hybrids. Although they've been around since 1957, these hybrids have become more widely known and appreciated in just the last fifteen years. The most popular and smallest cultivar is 'Winter Sun', which grows 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. The slightly larger 'Hope', also an excellent selection as well as an early bloomer, is often in full flower by Thanksgiving.
