Look, Ma, No Lawn! with Lili Singer
Are you ready to lose the lawn? Los Angeles native Lili Singer, Director of Special Projects and Adult Education at the Theodore Payne Foundation (TPF) and an award-winning horticulturist and garden writer, will explain how to take it out this water- and fertilizer-hungry landscape feature in a class to be held on Saturday, August 16, from 1:30-3:30 p.m at the TPF Ed Center. She'll offer alternatives, specifically low-care native plants that need no fertilizer and use a fraction of the water required for turf. Cost is $25 members; $35 non-members. The Foundation is located at 10459 Tuxford St, Sun Valley, CA. Vegetable Gardening at a Glance: How to Plant and Store

Tool or Gardening Product

Pulling Unwanted Tree Seedlings
Use pliers to pull tree seedlings without having them break off at ground level and grow back stronger than ever. Grasp the stem at the soil line, carefully wind the stem around the pliers, and pull straight upward. The whole root system will come out, even in dry soil. Soaking the area the day or two beforehand will ease the task.
