Shade Gardening
The Louisiana State Extension Service has produced an excellent reference site on shade gardening. It includes information on cultural practices for getting the most out of your plants in shady spots. A list of shade loving plants is included with a rating on the type of shade they will do well in.

Favorite or New Plant

Babylon Verbena
There are many great types of verbena on the market that will perform well in our southern gardens. One of my favorites is the Babylon series that features many different colors. It has survived the summer in a semi- shaded location and returned for a spectacular show in the spring. I like the fine textured foliage and low growth habit. This makes for a tidy groundcover. Use it alone in a planting bed or beneath taller shrubs such as roses.
