I will confess winter is not among my favorite seasons. But it would be greatly missed because of its beauty and winter holidays if it did not come each year. The snows are beautiful and the moisture is needed to feed the plants when they awake in spring. Also the snow is like a large blanket which protects the earth from the bitter cold.

I simply hate winter. For sure I am a summer person. Snow and cold are not for me.

There is something either romantic or lonely about an abandoned sandy beach (with seashells) on a cold winter day here on the Atlantic coast. Many unusual shore birds are present as well as an occasional Snowy Owl that has migrated from the tundra south where food is more plentiful.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY bullsh--.

There are going to close the schools here because it is too cooooold, what a crock of sh--.

NO wonder todays youth are panty waist pussys.
All the jack-ss weather morons babble about is the bs wind-chill.
Frost bite in blah, blah, blah minutes. Unless you incredibly stupid wind chill only any effect on bare skin.
I have worked in sub-zero weather with wind chill and my face never froze off.
I have been in true -50 degree weather is does not even resemble their asinine wind-chill Chicken -Little crap, it is far worse and it is dangerous, hell true -40 feels a lot different than -30 when you breathe the air in.
Hell I have said before I put a starter on my car outside when it was -18 and I had to take my gloves off to start screws; I still have all ten fingers.
Sad, very sad no wonder this country is going to hell in a hand-basket.

I just went out and shoveled snow without a cap, NOT, I repeat , NOT a good idea.
Odd thing is I came in took my coat off and my shirt was damp from sweat.

I have a Snowmobile racing book and it shows one of the pro-team pit leaders without a hat and short hair; he looked like he had to be hurting.
The caption said he NEVER wore a cap, even below zero in the wind and he never got frost bitten ears.
I ain't that tough. D'Oh!

It is now -20 and for what it is worth, this is the lowest daytime temp. I have ever seen with the temps. still dropping.

I have to agree, Cheryl. This is nothing to fool around with. Yes, there are people who live with these conditions but they survive it because they're smart and take precautions. Stay in if you can. If you have to go out dress appropriately from head to toe.

Well I at my hometown library writing this.
It is -19 which would be a record for up by the St.Cloud area for a daytime temp . but it is supposed to get up to -18 down here which is still a record for here today.
Went to the old house yesterday and turned on the heat up stairs as the thermo. stops at fifty and it was pegged plus I could see my breath up stairs,
This morning the thermo. in the kitchen said 40 degrees as I do not close the unheated store room door like dad used to.
I will probably turn on the little kitchen space heater tonight and my heating bill will probably be close to 300 this month.

Water pipe did not freeze in the cellar but the water out of the drinking faucet is cold, very cold but then it is colder than most places all year.
If I can find a thermometer, I think I will fill a glass and see what it says.
Car did not start this morning so I had to put it on a charger. My fault for not changing oil; will be on the charger all night.
There was a cold breeze on the floor in the living room which I always thought came out of the kitchen but when I checked it was coming out of the large gap under the upstair doorway door, one reason I turned the heater on up there,

My cousin had shoveled paths but I got out the snow blower and cleared all sidewalks totally including some neighbors.
Good thing about the wind, you can point the spout straight up and let her fly.
Roads are actually great as at this temp. even the deicers do not work so the roads are dry , and where there is snow it is not slippery.

Beautiful and sunny outside today, the air is nippy but unless you have cold feet that is invigorating.
Did not put on long johns as I simply have not needed them even when outside shoveling snow but I cannot find my logger boots so I may have to put on two pairs of socks as the dress boots I am wearing are not real warm but you do not really notice it till you are inside then your colder feet let you know they are, but in my hell raising youth years, decades, most of the time I wore leather dress shoes, till about my forties when I had switched to more proper ankle leather hiking type boots.

As warm as it is supposed to get in a few days, high thirties , I probably should get out my shorts again.

It is amazing how different weather sources come up with quite different forecasts but Monday up here is to have , depending on which one you read, a difference in high to low of from 38-45 degrees.
Seven degrees just seems odd.
Que sera, sera.

Winter is not here in full swing, actually more full than normal for February.
Continuous below average temperatures and getting close to setting a February snow fall record for this part of Minnesota.
I am pretty sure they already hit it 90 miles south of here.
Snow is fore cast in the next few days.

3 above zero at nine thirty P.M.

They heavy snow is coming in the next four days so today I will finally go out and put my snow tires on.
They would have been on at least a week ago but my chest ache said no.

It is 7 above zero right now and really rather pretty outside.
Bright cloudy and getting brighter.
I can see birds flittering about on many yards and when I go out side will fill the bird feeder.
I put down some Walnuts yesterday and about one half have disappeared.

Gopher, the last local private discount store bought out a European market in California and now has a lot of groceries in Russian with no English.
A lot of it went straight to the clearance store clearance area.
I bought some Russian, or former Soviet Union countries, kvass pop and water.
Carbonated malt or grain pop must be popular in other countries as I have seen in in European and South of our border on-line grocery sites.
Sad thing is twenty years ago I could have pidgined my way through the label, now all I can is read and still pronounce the words while thinking, I used to know what that meant.

Well I am listening to the evening news now and from their weather forecast my house is set to get 5-7 inches of snow but Sharon's house is still set to get 10-16 inches of snow.

It is 30 degrees now and was cloudy all day.
I was going to not come back till tomorrow but most recent forecasts say snow is supposed to start arriving now a nine in the morning not noon as they had said so having no love to drive back into the heaviest part of the storm, I did as Monty Python used to say :

Officially we received 7.5 inches of snow.
My home town received 8.7 inches of snow.

I am kind of wondering just how they pick their reporting stations, this is the NWS yet some larger towns have none but in the area I grew up in some come from parts where you could get a beer and burger while under age because it is out in the boonies. Blinking

Bright sunny and a bit chilly at 16 degrees.
One bad thing about the high sun is it melts snow and ice but when it is cool as it is now, it becomes ice on the ground, especially side walks.

Have to be really careful of the ice as no one wants to slip and fall.
